Beware of unlicensed vendors!

I got a call about a girl allegedly trying to sell windshield repair services door-to-door. I asked the police about it and got this response:

“Coast to Coast Auto-Glass. The do not have City required Peddlers’ Permits. Google their company name and you probably won’t want to do business with them. Call Police when they come around so we can cite them or at least get rid of them. 577-7434.”

In addition to their potentially selling a defective product, this type of activity might also be a scouting mission for other bad deeds.

Lock your doors and keep your eyes open…

One of the nice things about our neighborhood is that it’s a nice, out-of-the-way place that’s generally pretty quiet.

But we do need to remember to lock our doors and keep our eyes open. There are lots of contractors in-and-out all week; you probably recognize most of them. But other people slip in too, and may not have our best interests in mind. If you have a question about anybody you see, drop us a note and we’ll see if anybody else has an issue with them .

Parkshore Pool / Swim Team info

If you are interested in the Parkshore Pool or swim team, there is info at http://www.swimpks.com

Basically the scoop is, if you pay for membership by March 31st, it costs $375 per family. After that it is $400 per year. Seniors (55+) pay $250 and Single memberships cost $200. Local guests are limited to 5 visits per season and must pay $2 per visit. Out of town guests are free with a member.

Swim team dues are $75 for the 1st child, $25 for the 2nd child and $15 for each additional child.

Snow Damage!

I measured 1.5″ on our back porch, and that much snow should not have caused much damage. However this tree on Windsor Dr couldn’t take it. Based on the snow pattern, it looks like it went down early in the storm.

We’ll probably learn more later, but my guess is that the tree had some health issues, or else it would have stayed up.

New Landscaping Contract Coming in June 2009 – Expanded Service for a Lower Price

Over the past few months, we solicited bids for the island maintenance on Poston Road. Four bids were submitted, all of which were for a lower cost than our previous contract. In addition to reducing the costs, as a bonus, the service was expanded to the two small islands within the neighborhood. The new company, Evans Enterprises, is anxious to do a great job and be well received by the community. Please send any comments you have on the new service (once they have had a chance to begin) to parkshore3 @clutter.com (no spaces) so we can gauge satisfaction with the new company’s service and provide them with the feedback necessary to meet our needs. They will be visiting the islands monthly to do routine trimming, debris cleanup, weeding and weed prevention as well as applying pine straw twice a year. If you haven’t yet participated in the community landscaping fund, please do so as soon as you can so we can continue this service that helps maintain the value of our homes.

I-526 impacts on Parkshore III

This was forwarded from a neighborhood further down Sam Ritt, but seems to apply to us as well. I haven’t researched it or attended one of the information sessions, so if you know more, please add a comment.

“If you have not attended an I-526 public hearing, please try to. Unfortunately for our District, every alternative tends to increase traffic on Hwy 7, Sam Rittenberg and Orange Grove by a minimum of 10%. Our area is essentially a cut through, cutting the corner if you will from I-26 to the junction of I-526 and 17 South. As this process continues, I believe we need to become more active in working with the State, County and City in traffic calming from the bridge to Carriage Lane on one side and to Ashley Hall Rd. on the other. Even now, it is difficult for bicyclist and pedestrians to cross this speedway and given an increased volume, negotiating it will be near impossible.”
