Trash / Garbage Schedule Adjustments

Trash Pickup On One-Day Delay For Parts Of City Of Charleston; Garbage Pickup Remains On Schedule

Charleston, S.C. — Due to unusually large volumes of debris created from last week’s wind and rain storms, trash pickup will be delayed one day for downtown, inner West Ashley and James Island residents for the remainder of the week. Outer West Ashley, Johns Island and Daniel Island will remain on a normal trash pickup schedule.

Crews will work into the weekend in order to complete this week’s trash pickup.

Trash includes:

– Leaves, twigs, weeds and grass clippings in brown paper bags designed for the purpose of leaf and clippings disposal,

– Tree limbs and stumps in 4-foot lengths and 4-inch diameter,

– Miscellaneous materials (personal construction materials, wood or metal scrap).

Garbage pickup (collected in green bins) will not be impacted and continue to be picked up on schedule.

“Based on what we’ve seen so far, we’re projecting a 65 percent increase in the amount of trash put at the curb this month – about 700 tons more than usual,” Superintendent of Environmental Services Matt Alltop said. “We appreciate our citizens patience as we get fully caught up and back on schedule.”
