I’m sure you’re aware of this, but just in case….

If they have to go with their alternative, then it’s going to need some major improvement. Because right now, it’s dangerous to leave it as is and just paint sharrows.

Hello Katie!

Hope you have been well. I don’t know the level of involvement you have had on the Old Towne Road sidewalk project, but there is an area within the project that calls for tree removals where we are constructing a ten-foot-wide multi-use concrete sidewalk to replace an existing five-foot-wide sidewalk on Old Towne Road.  We know that this impact on the existing trees and vegetation in the right-of-way between Ingram Road and Old Towne Road will not sit well with the residents living in the area. Because of this sentiment, we have scheduled a community meeting with the residents of the Charlestown Estates subdivision located next to Charlestown Landing State Park.  The purpose of the meeting is to inform the residents of the project and to gather their feedback on the project scope and tree impacts.

The reason I want to make you aware of this meeting is because there is an alternative being considered to leave the five-foot sidewalk as is in that area, and to instead paint sharrows on Ingram Road to accommodate bicyclists. If you would like to attend, we are planning to hold the meeting on Thursday June 30th from 5PM to 6 PM at the Charleston Presbyterian Church at 1405 Miles Drive across the street from the State Park. John Martin is the PM on this project but since his multi-use path will tie in to my SC7-171 improvements we are collaborating on the community engagement effort. Please let me or John know if you have any thoughts or concerns. Thanks!

Respectfully,
