Seeking Talented Painters

Our neighborhood sign has a blank oval space that is meant to have a decoration on it. We are seeking someone who could paint the Parkshore “emblem” of grass and waves inside the oval, and a border around the oval.

The neighborhood emblem is the green line that turns to blue waves that appears on our neighborhood street signs:

We are hoping to find a volunteer among our neighbors who is willing to complete this embellishment on our neighborhood sign. The neighborhood will supply the needed supplies! Please email parkshore3hoa@gmail.com with questions and / or to volunteer.

Meeting to Discuss Nearby Project

Please note the email messages exchanged between Katie Zimmerman and Shelia Parker, County Construction Project Manager, regarding a community meeting on June 30th between 5:00 and 6:00 at the Charleston Presbyterian Church, 1405 Miles Drive.

The purpose of the meetings is to discuss tree removals along Old Towne Road for the sidewalk improvement project. Details are more fully outlined below.

Please share with your neighbors and other West Ashley residents.

I’m sure you’re aware of this, but just in case….

If they have to go with their alternative, then it’s going to need some major improvement. Because right now, it’s dangerous to leave it as is and just paint sharrows.

Hello Katie!

Hope you have been well. I don’t know the level of involvement you have had on the Old Towne Road sidewalk project, but there is an area within the project that calls for tree removals where we are constructing a ten-foot-wide multi-use concrete sidewalk to replace an existing five-foot-wide sidewalk on Old Towne Road.  We know that this impact on the existing trees and vegetation in the right-of-way between Ingram Road and Old Towne Road will not sit well with the residents living in the area. Because of this sentiment, we have scheduled a community meeting with the residents of the Charlestown Estates subdivision located next to Charlestown Landing State Park.  The purpose of the meeting is to inform the residents of the project and to gather their feedback on the project scope and tree impacts.

The reason I want to make you aware of this meeting is because there is an alternative being considered to leave the five-foot sidewalk as is in that area, and to instead paint sharrows on Ingram Road to accommodate bicyclists. If you would like to attend, we are planning to hold the meeting on Thursday June 30th from 5PM to 6 PM at the Charleston Presbyterian Church at 1405 Miles Drive across the street from the State Park. John Martin is the PM on this project but since his multi-use path will tie in to my SC7-171 improvements we are collaborating on the community engagement effort. Please let me or John know if you have any thoughts or concerns. Thanks!

Respectfully,

Local Updates from Councilman Shahid

Dear Neighborhood Association Presidents:

I will hold my next constituent meeting, “Coffee and Conversation with Peter”, 10:00am, Saturday, May 14th, in the class room at Charles Towne Landing. The conceptual plans of the proposed Sumar Street (the former Piggly Wiggly) site will be presented at this meeting. This will be the third public showing of the vision for the redevelopment of this property. I encourage you and your family, neighbors and friends to attend.

There are other events I wish to call to your attention:

First, attached and listed below is the City Council agendas for next week’s committees and council meeting.

Second, as noted below is the agenda for the West Ashley Revitalization Commission meeting to be held at 5:30 on May 11th at the Bees Ferry Public Library.

Third, on Thursday May12th the first of three road races/walks will be held at Charles Towne Landing, which is organized by Friends of the Landing. The other 2 races within this series is May 26th and June 16th. These races include a kids race and are followed by a dinner hosted in Founder’s Hall.  These are family oriented races and is a fun opportunity to spend time with family, friends and neighbors. The run begins at 7:00 pm and the kids run is held beforehand.

Finally, Charleston Moves is holding its second annual Ride of Silence on May 18th, in conjunction with the International Ride of Silence. This ride will be their third over the North Bridge.
