Local Updates from Councilman Shahid

Dear Neighborhood Association Presidents:

I will hold my next constituent meeting, “Coffee and Conversation with Peter”, 10:00am, Saturday, May 14th, in the class room at Charles Towne Landing. The conceptual plans of the proposed Sumar Street (the former Piggly Wiggly) site will be presented at this meeting. This will be the third public showing of the vision for the redevelopment of this property. I encourage you and your family, neighbors and friends to attend.

There are other events I wish to call to your attention:

First, attached and listed below is the City Council agendas for next week’s committees and council meeting.

Second, as noted below is the agenda for the West Ashley Revitalization Commission meeting to be held at 5:30 on May 11th at the Bees Ferry Public Library.

Third, on Thursday May12th the first of three road races/walks will be held at Charles Towne Landing, which is organized by Friends of the Landing. The other 2 races within this series is May 26th and June 16th. These races include a kids race and are followed by a dinner hosted in Founder’s Hall.  These are family oriented races and is a fun opportunity to spend time with family, friends and neighbors. The run begins at 7:00 pm and the kids run is held beforehand.

Finally, Charleston Moves is holding its second annual Ride of Silence on May 18th, in conjunction with the International Ride of Silence. This ride will be their third over the North Bridge. They will start and end outside of Frothy Beard Brewing in West Ashley. Ride of Silence is a bicycle ride that takes place across the globe at approximately the same time, during which we honor those we have lost on our roadways.

Trash / Garbage Schedule Adjustments

Trash Pickup On One-Day Delay For Parts Of City Of Charleston; Garbage Pickup Remains On Schedule

Charleston, S.C. — Due to unusually large volumes of debris created from last week’s wind and rain storms, trash pickup will be delayed one day for downtown, inner West Ashley and James Island residents for the remainder of the week. Outer West Ashley, Johns Island and Daniel Island will remain on a normal trash pickup schedule.

Crews will work into the weekend in order to complete this week’s trash pickup.

Trash includes:

– Leaves, twigs, weeds and grass clippings in brown paper bags designed for the purpose of leaf and clippings disposal,

– Tree limbs and stumps in 4-foot lengths and 4-inch diameter,

– Miscellaneous materials (personal construction materials, wood or metal scrap).

Garbage pickup (collected in green bins) will not be impacted and continue to be picked up on schedule.

“Based on what we’ve seen so far, we’re projecting a 65 percent increase in the amount of trash put at the curb this month – about 700 tons more than usual,” Superintendent of Environmental Services Matt Alltop said. “We appreciate our citizens patience as we get fully caught up and back on schedule.”

Parkshore III Potluck Block Party – 4-6pm on April 24th

Don’t Miss the Parkshore III Block Party!
Save the Date! After a two year pandemic hiatus, our Neighborhood Potluck Block Party is planned for Sunday April 24th, from 4-6 pm. It will be held at a new site this year, the cul de sac at the end of Leichester Road. It is a great time to renew friendships and meet our new neighbors. Hot dogs, condiments, paper plates / cups / utensils, and non-alcoholic beverages (etc) will be provided, but please consider bringing a dessert or covered dish to share. All Parkshore III residents are welcome!

Rain Date: If the weather is bad, we plan on holding the block party on May 1st from 4-6pm.

Many thanks to our Parkshore III neighbors who help keep our little community looking great by supporting the voluntary landscaping fund. Without your support, we wouldn’t have the neighborhood islands trimmed, planted, and mulched. Pine straw will be put down in the islands around our neighborhood in the coming weeks. We are also very grateful to all of our families who have contributed in the past and hope you will continue to contribute to the 2022 fund if you haven’t already done so. The suggested donation is $100, but any amount is very much appreciated! Donations can be made to Parkshore III HOA and delivered to our Treasurer, Pam Luhn, at 10 Charing Cross Road.

Apologies and Thanks to Willie and Paula Horne who were accidentally left off of the 2021 & 2022 donation recognition lists!

We hope to see everyone there!!
