The Charleston Public Service Department would like to make citizens aware that our normal trash collection schedule is off one day as a result of the City’s Monday observance of Juneteenth.
Since our normal collection day for garbage collection is Wednesday, it will be pushed back to Thursday.
The Charleston County recycling schedule has not changed.
The City of Charleston received grant funding from SCDHEC to pilot a mattress recycling program. Did you know most mattresses and box springs are about 90% recyclable?
Charleston, S.C.—The West Ashley Farmers Marketwill return to Ackerman Park in its essentials-only format on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 3 to 7 p.m., and will continue every Wednesday thereafter through October 27.
This essentials-only format will feature the following vendors with local produce and locally produced packaged food items:
Free parking will be available in the gravel lot immediately adjacent to the park.
Vendors and patrons are encouraged to follow all current CDC protocols related to COVID-19 during the event.

Charleston, S.C.—The city of Charleston is seeking public comment on the Ashley River Crossing project, a bicycle and pedestrian bridge that will connect West Ashley and downtown Charleston.
Why it matters: With nearly half of all city of Charleston residents residing in West Ashley, a safe connection to the Peninsula is needed for both bicyclists and pedestrians.
By connecting these areas, the Ashley River Crossing project seeks to increase access to jobs, schools and other critical amenities for residents and visitors alike.
About the project: The Ashley River Crossing is a separated bike path and stand-alone bridge that will originate at the end of the West Ashley Greenway and cross the Ashley River, connecting bicyclist and pedestrians to downtown Charleston. The new bridge will also provide a safe connection between the West Ashley Greenway, Brittlebank Park and the Ashley River Walk.
In addition to construction of the bridge, this project includes improvements at key intersections along the West Ashley Greenway, and at the Bee Street and Lockwood Drive intersection on the Peninsula. The project will also make improvements to the West Ashley Greenway crosswalk at Wappoo Road.

How to participate: Citizens can submit feedback through May 3, 2021 by visiting the online public meeting, which can be accessed at the project website, www.ashleyrivercrossing.com/.
Designs for the project are currently being developed. Feedback received during the online public comment period will help inform the project team of design elements to consider.

» A free way to improve home values is to simply store your trash / recycle bins out of sight from the street. It instantly increases curb appeal!
» Bagged pet waste can’t be included with yard waste. Please refrain from tossing pet waste into yard bags as you walk your pet. The yard waste collection crews will not collect bagged pet waste if they see it and it gets tossed to the ground. Please take it home to your garbage can or toss it at one of the public trash bins at the park.
Please mark your calendar and help cleanup Northbridge walkway (recreation path between Tumbleston and Northbridge Park along Sam Rittenberg Blvd) on Saturday, March 13th 9 am-12 noon! The rain date is March 20th. Keep Charleston Beautiful will provide trash bags, grabbers and vests.
The City of Charleston will be closed on Monday, January 18th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In order to provide service to all residents in a timely manner, garbage and trash collection will take place on the modified schedule outlined below.
For Daniel Island and Cainhoy (Capitol Waste) there will be no schedule changes.
For outer West Ashley and Johns Island (Carolina Waste) there will be no schedule changes.
The Peninsula, Inner West Ashley and James Island (City Crews) will run on a one day delay. For example, if your garbage is normally picked up on Monday the week of the 18th it will be picked up on Tuesday.
